The 14th Dimitris Mitropoulos International Competition will be held in Athens, Greece, from 29th October to 3rd November 2010 for orchestral conducting. The finals of the Competition will be in the form of a public concert at the Athens Concert Hall. The competitors will conduct the Orchestra of Colours.
Age Limit The Competition is open to conductors of all nationalities who were born after April 30, 1975.
List of Works The list of 10 works to be prepared by the candidates for the subsequent phases of the competition will consist of classical, romantic and contemporary symphonic music, with or without a soloist, and will include one work by a Greek composer. It will be announced by the jury along with the names of those selected to participate in the first stage.
The jury of the international competition will consist of distinguished Greek and international musicians.
The Jury will assess the applications and choose a maximum of 16 candidates eligible to enter the first round of the competition with the Orchestra of Colours in Athens. Successful applicants will be informed of their acceptance soon after June 20, 2010. The decision of the Jury will be final and no further correspondence can be entered into after that date.
Confirmation Successful candidates must confirm by fax or e-mail no later than June 30, 2010 their intention to participate in the final rounds of the Competition. Should any of the candidates fail to communicate their intention to participate or decide not to attend, their place will be taken by the next runner-up.
The Competition will consist of three rounds: a. First Round: Candidates will be asked to conduct the Orchestra of Colours performing extracts from the given List of Works set by the jury during the audition. A maximum of eight (8) competitors will be admitted to the second round b. Second Round: Candidates will be asked to conduct extracts from the set List of Works. A maximum of three (3) competitors will be admitted to the final round. c. Final Round: Candidates will conduct a short 30 minute programme with works (or extracts) from the List of Works specified by the Jury. To prepare for this programme, the candidate can have a two-hour rehearsal with the Orchestra of Colours. The Final Round will be open to the public.
Prizes Immediately after the last competitor has ended her/his performance, the Jury will vote for the following prizes: 1st prize: 15.000 Euro 2nd prize: 9.000 Euro 3rd prize: 6.000 Euro and concerts with the Orchestra of Colours and the Wiener Kammerorchester in Konzerthaus Wien The Jury may decide to offer a special prize to one of the 8 semi-finalists. As the Jury votes for the main prize-winners, the members of the Orchestra of Colours will select by secret ballot the winner of the Orchestra Preference Award (3.000 Euro). All 8 semi-finalists will be eligible for this prize, which will be additional to any of the main prizes. The prize-monies are subject to Greek income tax legislature. Tax may therefore be deducted from them. The Jury is entitled to deny the award of any prize and to distribute the prize money otherwise.
The first prize-winner will not be eligible to participate in future Dimitris Mitropoulos International Competitions for Orchestral Conducting, while the second and third prize-winners will be eligible to do so after the end of a five-year period.
Participants will receive no fee or other compensation for television, radio or video recordings and broadcasts of the Competition, including international circulation of relevant material.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
