Orchestre La Grande Commanderie de Chypre / Commandaria Orchestra

The ‘Orchestre La Grande Commanderie de Chypre’ (Commandaria Orchestra of Cyprus) was established in 2009 by the Kinyras Cultural Organization, with main target the implementation of the visions of the institution, which include among others the spread of the musical culture of Cyprus, and as well the spread of works from the classical repertoire directly connected to the Greek history and mythology.

The appellation of the orchestra directly references to the place where The Kinyras Cultural Organization is, at the historical headquarters of La Grande Commanderie of Cyprus, which was established by the Knights Hospitallers (Knights of the Order of St. John). Commandaria is also the unique and oldest sweet-drink wine of Cyprus to which Hesiodus and Homer refer to.
